Located in an old 15th-century farmhouse, Can Coll Environmental Education Centre fosters links between the park and schools, covering infant (3-6 years), primary (6-12) and secondary (12-16) education. The centre also organises programmes aimed at education science students and working teachers. Special schools also receive preferential treatment, with programmes designed specifically for them.
The activities, which each last one full day, focus on knowledge about specific subjects. For example, infant school visitors may carry out an activity on the natural environment, farming or the woods, whilst older schoolchildren learn about vegetation, fauna, geography, history or the rural world. Teachers and professors prepare these activities at a meeting with educators at Can Coll. Registration for them begins on the first working day in September.
On Sundays, the centre opens to the public from 9.30 am to 3 pm (closed in July and August and on Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and Epiphany). Visitors see the interior of the farmhouse, see the exhibition “Man and the Environment in Collserola” and the Park audiovisuals, follow the signposted routes around the area and, from 11 am to 1.30 pm, go around the farm itself. From 11 am to 1.30 pm, from November to February, moreover, visitors can also observe hibernating birds from the “Feixa dels Ocells” site. Park volunteers are on hand to inform and advise visitors about the different activities available.
